Grinding the best locally-produced coffee beans, Urban Grind (or, simply UG) takes up the challenge to change how Filipinos should enjoy their coffee.

Urban Grind opened its first branch in Ali Mall, Araneta City two years ago as a posh yet affordable hangout place for yuppies to sip a coffee. Now, it branches out in Shopwise Arcade just across Gateway Mall and the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With all the international and local coffee shops popping up everywhere, Urban Grind sees an opportunity to offer something new to coffee aficionados by giving customers a place where they can feel at home.

“We entered the industry with one thing in mind: to give people here in the City a home to detach from all the hustle and stress from work and transport. This is a place where one can detach from the everyday grind,” Laurene Calaquian, operations manager, said.

True enough, the Urban Grind shop has a serene atmosphere, with all the neutral colors and minimalist design inside. The place is ornate with plants alongside comfy couches that emulate a homey living room vibe that is truly inviting. Dine in customers can enjoy their coffee at ease and feel at home at the same time.

UG grinds its beans upon order, so customers can really taste a freshly brewed coffee in every cup. One can order a drink hot or iced, Americano or Espresso, tea or shakes, or in any other variant.

What makes this coffee shop stand out from the rest is its affordable and satisfying sandwiches and rice meals. Eating at UG feels like a nostalgic trip to the countryside as you enjoy coffee with homemade dishes ranging from breakfast meals, sandwiches, pastries, and even pasta.

The story behind UG started with Laurene’s grandfather, who wanted to put up a coffee shop to pay homage to his wife who passed away. UG was established with a menu based from the cookbook of Laurene’s grandmother. After all, it was her grandma who made the best dishes in their family. Now, the shop brings her legacy to public consumers, and at the same time grinds out all the clutter and stress from the daily hustle.

Given the health crisis, customers can be assured of their safety and welfare while dining at Urban Grind. The store implements strict social distancing measures, proper hygiene sanitation and regular check-ups in its employees. Contactless payment and deliveries are also encouraged.
